For Immediate Release

PodcastOn Monday, March 30, 2009 I listened to the podcast For Immediate Release: The Hobson and Holtz Report for my public relations class with Professor Barbara Nixon in place of Wednesday’s class on April 1st. For Immediate Release is a twice weekly podcast that features two communication professionals from ABC, Neville Hobson and Shel Holtz that discuss public relations and technology. For today’s podcast Shel Holtz is in Baltimore to speak at the John Hopkins Medical Center. Neville Hobson is in Berkshire, England.

This week’s episode featured Michael Netzley who discussed some interesting reports from Asia such as, internet usage in Singapore, mobile phone usage in China, online gaming, and at the forefront Tencent QQ instant messaging in China. Netzley explained how QQ enabled you to instant message, blog, and explore the internet. Tencent gross revenue for 2008 was $1oo billion U.S. dollars. That’s almost 3x more than Facebook. Despite the economic downturn in 2008 these internet companies are doing very well.

Custom Scoop had a Media Monitoring Minute and discussed how social media can sometimes help you get control back, such as Michael Phelps using Twitter to speak to his fans he was caught smoking marijunia. Custom Scoop is a media monitoring service who finds out what the public is saying.

Nicole Simon introduces a contest for the FIR (For Immediate Release) listeners to win free entry to Next09 in Hamburg, Germany. Next09 is conference that takes place May 5 and 6  and features speakers such as, Jeff Jarvis. The conference will discss the financial crisis and this year it is called Share Economy.
