Turning time back to Ch. 1

Turn Back Time

In Barbara Nixon’s class we are almost at mid semester and I just realized that I was supposed to be writing notes from each chapter of the text Public Relations: Strategies and Tactics 9th Edition by Wilcox and Cameron. Although I am turning back time to chapter one, I feel that by writing these reading notes I will better prepare myself for the future.

Chapter 1 starts at the very basics of Public Relations asking the question, “What is Public Relations?” Throughout this chapter there are terms, definitions, and key words that are essential to the PR person, but one thing that has been etched in my brain is Public Relations as a process. In the text it states that “Public Relations is a process- that is, a series of actions, changes, or functions that bring about a result” (Wilcox and Cameron 8). They like to describe this process as RACE; Research, Action, Communication, and Evaluation. These four elements are what my class is based on. We are learning how each element applies to Public Relations. It is interesting to see how only four elements can make up something so big.
